I didn’t want to buy a book on hiking in the Catskills. I just wanted to know how to plan, understand the lay of the land, not drive out of my way, and know where the trailheads are. There are many, some secret, like the swimming holes like “Big Deep.” Every few weekends, when we wanted to hike “somewhere new,” I’d Google and find information on one area or another which was useful but I wanted a bigger picture idea. I had heard of a trail down a particular county road and nothign woudl come up on it. Or, we’d find a trail but the road would be undriveable. Finally, after 2 years of meandering weekends, I found this amazing resource–simply Catskillguide.com. I don’t know why it didn’t come up sooner. I can’t tell if it’s recently launched but now, it’s the first thing that comes up if you search “Catskill hikes.” I can see the whole area and figure out which ones makes sense to approach, how far to plan, and figure out if the drive time is worth it. There’s a lot to do and see, and I’m always obsessing about doing it all. This generous effort is exactly perfect, to the point, and what I was seeking to help me do just that.
