Last year, with an Oscar dinner party on the horizon, I crammed in a few last minute screenings and came up with clever and witty menu ideas to pun off some of the nominees. The move, and work and various other factors this year means I am totally clueless about this year’s lineup and I am not making time tomorrow to see one more.  So I’ve seen just Inglorious Basterds and, when I watch the show tomorrow night with a group of friends, will be unable to truly participate. Precious seems, from the footage I have seen, to showcase actors giving their all, so I would like to see them get some love.  And move all the nominees up the queue on Netflix.  There are still a handful from 2009 that I have yet to watch.

I have to be much better about Netflix.  I have had the Diving Bell and the Butterfly for 12 weeks. It’s partly because our TV conked and the DVD laptop we were using was glitching with the subtitles and Matt wants to see it too so we have to coordinate schedules, and we have also both been individually super busy, so hence, 12 weeks pass.  But I’m paying for it and I love my list, but sometimes I’m just not in the mood.

Blockbuster is in dire straits but tonight while at a quick stop at Duane Reade, I was intrigued by the newly installed Blockbuster rental kiosk. (Still hate the colors.)

This could be last gasp or really smart.  While I love the model for Netflix, sometimes, I just want instant old-fashioned-video-store tangible satisfaction in an instant.   At the supermarket upstate they had something like this kiosk but a different brand–with movies I’d never heard of nor would ever find of interest .  At this one, they have some good current options so I’d be inclined to give it a try.  Rent from Blockbuster again for the first time in years.
