Coming Up Empty-New Songs
Categories: Music

This was intended to be a blog about writings that aren’t songs but that’s going to change so I’ll just have to change the tagline.

I’ve been recording solo for some time now.  While I miss working with Winston, Manuel, Matt and Luis and the revolving cast of bassists and special guests so so much, I wanted to get more recording done. Given the circumstances and the way the music was coming out, it would be best to bring it out on piano and test what I could do with my very limited and pretty lame production skills.  Despite my ADD for learning from manuals and my nasty habit of comparing myself to producers who actually make a living producing (like Mark Ronson, Timbaland, Massive Attack and Linda Perry), it was cool to try (after I fretted about it for many months).  I can’t make mad beats but in my beloved little “getaway cottage” on Main Street in Saugerties (or rather Malden), I recorded what in the olden days would be called an album.  I’ll be posting the results here (songs featuring my aforementioned bandmates, can be heard at Bouva.com) as the songs get the finishing touches to hopefully grace iPods and iPads and stereos and such.

These results were, in the words of the lovely and talented engineers at Dubway who are lending a pro hand to mix, “surprising…good…most homemade work we hear is not like this.”  I’ll take that as a compliment.

Here’s one now:

Coming Up Empty

More to come.  And video too!
